February 19, 2024— To enhance the efficiency of operations for the attainment of the University vision, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (OVPRDE) conducted a comprehensive orientation on policies and processes encompassing the Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) operations to RDE constituents, at the University Hostel Training Hall, ý Obrero Campus.

The orientation aims to streamline management processes, improve productivity, and discuss the objectives of RDE by delving into the existing protocols and framework of respective OVPRDE divisions. Moreover, the orientation helped cascade critical information not only to the division but also to its units and the colleges/schools in accomplishing the deliverables.

Dr. Roger C. Montepio, ý VPRDE, inaugurated the event by emphasizing the role of RDE in advancing the goals of the University toward contributing to knowledge creation, innovations, and community development.

The meeting further facilitated open fora wherein key participants, including the Directors, Deputy Directors, Research Center Managers, Extension Heads, College/School Deans, and support staff personnel under Research and Development Division (RDD), Extension Division, Knowledge Transfer and Technology Division (KTTD), and various academic units, sought clarifications on the processes and engaged in dialogues about potential avenues for resolving challenges.

Meanwhile, University President, Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr., also addressed a message reinforcing the constituents’ commitment to supporting research and extension program initiatives. The continuous achievement of RDE targets was underscored as crucial for upcoming accreditations, potentially elevating the institution’s academic reputation.

The OPVRDE remains optimistic with its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in research, development, and extension and contributing meaningfully to the success of the University.

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (OVPRDE) conducted a two-day Planning Workshop for FY 2024 on 20-21 November 2023. The workshop was participated in by the Research and Development Division, Extension Division, Knowledge and Technology Transfer Division, and Office of Project Development and Linkages, along with their constituent units.

VPRDE Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva highlighted the need to assess the RDE accomplishments vis-à-vis targets for this year to identify the gaps and prepare catch-up strategies, and work collaboratively as a team to achieve the University goals.

Overall, the activity is intended to prepare plans and strategies to improve the RDE process for an effective and efficient delivery of RDE services.

Bearing the theme, “Panaghiusa: Igniting Hope. Inspiring Change. Transforming Lives,” the Summit serves as a platform for the University to showcase the remarkable achievements of the Extension Division and various colleges and schools within the University, stemming from the dedicated efforts in executing a multitude of extension programs, activities and projects (PAPs). The Summit also highlighted the positive impact of the University’s initiatives to transform lives in the community it serves.

The Summit included various activities, including presentations of completed extension programs/projects, sharing of experiences of the partner agencies and communities, and booth displays and networking.
Partner agencies, stakeholders, University Faculty, Non-Teaching Staff, and Students participated in the Summit.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) was proclaimed as the Best Booth, followed by the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences (CARS) and the College of Teacher Education and Technology (CTET).

SciCAT AGRI-VIDA: A project on the Advancement and Generation of Reliable Source of Income through Value-added Innovations and Continual Dissemination won the Best Paper Award for Completed Extension Program/Project; with Operation TABANG (Tulong Alay sa Pag-angat ng Buhay at Kaalaman ng Nangangailangang kabataan at Ginabayang mga Guro) as the second place.

Dr. Villanueva thanked the Extension Division personnel, dubbed as ‘extensionists,’ and ý’s partner agencies and stakeholders for their dedication to work and support in helping the University realize its vision of becoming an agent of transformation to the communities it touches.

Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), delivered the message of University President Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao for the Summit. Dr. Generalao emphasized the crucial role of extension activities in developing a community. “They bridge the gap between knowledge and action, potential and progress. As we gather here today, let us remember that our commitment to extension work is an inspiration for those in need, a stimulus for positive change, and a guiding light for societal transformation,” she said.

Extension Division Director Dr. Roby V. Pagong delivered the rationale of the activity. Deputy Director of Continuing Education Center (CEC) Dr. Velouna R. Perez acknowledged the participants and representatives of the partner agencies who attended the summit.

Former ý VPRDE, Dr. Danillo B. Pacoy, served as the keynote speaker for the summit. He talked about the elements of a successful extension program that has a transformative effect on a community. “We do not just produce new knowledge; we also help empower people, especially those in the poorest and the most marginalized sector of the society,” Dr. Pacoy said.

The summit includes various activities, including presentations of completed extension programs/projects, sharing of experiences of the partner agencies and communities, and booth displays and networking.

Officials from the Davao de Oro State College (DDOSC) conducted a benchmarking visit on the University of Southeastern ý- Knowledge and Technology Transfer Division (ý-KTTD) to inquire and learn on the mandates and functions of an Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) in aid of the College’s endeavor to establish a separate innovation office/unit.

Dr. Roby V. Pagong, Extension Division Director, together with Engr. Filmann T. Simpao and Dr. Evelyn A. Gecale welcomed the delegates from DDOSC led by Dr. Lilibeth M. Matunhay, Chief for Administrative and Finance Division; Mr. Jeson N. Geroche, Director for Research and Development Division; Mr. Jay-R R. Tayaban, College and Board Secretary; and Engr. Bench Carlo C. Refogio, Science Research Assistant.

DDOSC delegates expressed their satisfaction and thanks with the warm welcome of the University and for the essential tips and inputs that ý shared in terms of the KTTD functions and mandates outlined by the recently approved Research, Development and Extension (RDE) Manual of the University.

Odin, paid a courtesy visit to the University, today, February 27, 2023, to discuss co-hosting the 4th International Conference on Environment and Forest Conservation (ICEFC) themed, “Forging Sustainable Partnerships for a Resilient, Inclusive, and Innovative Conservation of Forest and Environment”, which will take place on November 16-18, 2023 at Acacia Hotel, Davao City.

Together with Dr. Odin were officials from the MSU-Maguindanao, viz: Dr. Raquel Santiago-Arenas, Research Director; and Dr. Rowena Benavides, Dean of the College of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

Other matters to be discussed in the said meeting are the possible partnerships that aim to strengthen agriculture, fisheries, and forestry programs through research and extension and best practices observed by the University in view of its outstanding performance on licensure examinations.

The NEX PH team visited the University of Southeastern ý to run the Phase 3: Energy Startup Bootcamp for Teachers. The activity was held at ý Social hall for DAY 1 and KTTD-DFU Office for the DAY 2 last August 12-13, 2022.

Participants from different ý Colleges including external campuses are enthusiastically engaging in a series of lectures and talks. The entire activity aims to increase awareness about Energy Literacy or Sustainable Energy Innovation concepts and to capacitate the faculty members from the engineering, technology, and other related disciplines with resources, knowledge and skills.

Energy 103 Program for Academe is a 2-day boot camp where participants will learn and practice energy problem analysis and ideation, market segmentation, customer persona, lean startup, business model, and impact assessment.
